Emerging in the 1990s during work on a shopping centre, Lake Bullicante has become a habitat rich in biodiversity, which is in danger of disappearing because of a building permit.
Lake Bullicante - now a true urban nature oasis. - is the focus of the project to protect the area, which has a perimeter of about 19 hectares and includes the ruins of the former Snia Viscosa factory.
The CISA-SNIA viscose factory closed its doors in 1954 and the area remained abandoned for decades. At the beginning of the 1990s, the neighbourhood committee began a fight against an ongoing and impressive attempt at property speculation.
In February 1995 it was occupied the area that houses the community center CSOA Ex Snia. Another part of the area, now public park of Energie was expropriated and returned to the people between 2000 and 2004.
In 2013 began the current mobilization to the annexation of several hangars of the factory and the lake provoked in 1992 by perforations of the Pulcini Roman building enterprise in the misguided attempt to build a shopping center.
The project want to stop speculation and experiment with the self-management of public services for mutual benefit: Education, Culture, Music projects and reuse/recycle materials laboratories.
